How it works

From your kitchen table to our bench and back.

No clinic visit, no scan app to fight with, an email at every step. Here is the whole process — including the bench.

The four steps

Four steps. One trip to the mailbox.

Everything happens at home except the making. Milled and finished by hand in our New York workshop, from domestic and imported materials.

  1. 01

    Take the 50-second quiz

Where it hurts, what you do all day, which shoes. We match one of 25 designs to you — no diagnosis, just a fit plan.

  2. 02

Press into the kit at home

A foam impression kit ships within 1 business day of your order. Press each foot into the foam, close the box and send it back. Five minutes, no appointment; shipping is free both ways.

  3. 03

We make your pair in our own workshop

Your impression is checked the day it lands — that is the day your delivery clock starts. A technician contours arch, heel and forefoot to your foot; the shell is milled to that contour, finished and checked against your impression.

  4. 04

At your door — or a full refund

Under 10 business days from the day we receive your impression, tracked the whole way. Counted in business days from the day your impression arrives at our workshop. Slide them in, lace up, walk. 180 days to decide.

Inside the workshop

What happens to your impression

Milled and finished by hand in our New York workshop, from domestic and imported materials. About the workshop.

  1. 01

    Check

Your foam impression is checked the day it lands. The contour — arch height, heel cup depth, forefoot width — becomes the shape your pair is built to, not a size chart.

  2. 02

    Contour

A technician adjusts the design you chose (or the quiz matched) to your model: where the arch peaks, how deep the heel sits, where the forefoot needs room or relief.

  3. 03

    Mill

The shell is milled from a solid blank to your geometry. Firmness follows your weight band and the design; no two shells are the same shape.

  4. 04

    Hand-finish

The top cover is laminated and the edges are smoothed by hand so the pair sits flat in your shoe on day one.

  5. 05

    Check

The finished pair is checked against your impression before it is boxed. If it does not match, it does not ship.

  6. 06

    Ship

Your pair leaves the workshop with tracking — under 10 business days from the day your impression arrived, or a full refund. Slide them in, lace up, walk.

FAQ

Process questions

Still unsure? Write to care@evensteporthotics.com — a person answers.

How does ordering work?

Take the 50-second quiz or pick a design, choose your size and width, and check out. We mail you a foam impression kit. You press each foot into the foam, close the box and mail it back — shipping is free both ways. Your pair is shaped to your impression in our own workshop and is at your door in under 10 business days from the day your impression arrives — or a full refund.

How do I know they will fit?

Your orthotics are shaped from an impression of your own feet, not a size chart, and the shell is set to your weight band. We confirm the length from the impression and trim the pair to the shoe type you told us about. If anything is off, a remake is free inside the 180-day guarantee.

How long until I have my orthotics?

Under 10 business days from the day we receive your impression — or a full refund. The clock starts the day we receive your impression, not the day you order. The kit ships within 1 business day of your order, mail transit is typically 2–5 days each way, and your finished pair ships with tracking. If your pair has not arrived within 10 business days of your impression reaching our workshop, cancel for a full refund. Every leg is spelled out on the delivery guarantee page.

Which shoes will these fit?

Full-length designs fit sneakers, walking and running shoes, work boots and most lace-ups; remove the shoe's own insole and slide ours in, trimming along the guide if needed. The three-quarter design is for dress shoes and flats where there is no room for a full insole. Each pair is shaped for one shoe type, which is why a second pair for a different shoe is $139.

Do I need a prescription or a podiatry visit?

No. EvenStep custom orthotics are sold directly and made from your impression and your quiz answers. If a clinician has named your condition or written a prescription, you can email it with your order number and the workshop will follow it. Severe, sudden or worsening pain still deserves a clinician's look first.

Do you ship outside the United States?

Not yet. We ship free to all fifty states, DC and APO/FPO addresses. International shipping is on the list once the workshop's capacity is proven at home.

My feet are different sizes. Does that matter?

No — that is exactly what an impression is for. Each orthotic is made from its own footprint, so a half-size difference, a flatter left arch or a wider right forefoot is built in. Order the size of your larger foot and note the difference in the order comments if you like.

Can I reorder without a new impression?

Yes. We keep your impression and its digital model on file, so a reorder or a pair for a different shoe type is $139 and skips the kit entirely. Ask us to delete the impression any time and we will.
