For the foot that lands on its outer edge

A supinating foot rolls outward as it lands and stays there, so the outer heel, the outer ankle and the little-toe side of the forefoot take the impact. Shoes wear on the outside edge; ankles feel unstable on uneven ground; shock that a pronating foot would absorb goes straight up the leg.

This design brings the foot back toward center. A lateral heel post tips it gently inward; cushion runs along the outer edge where it lands; the arch is filled from your impression so the load is shared rather than concentrated at two points.

Build

Medium shell with a lateral post and an outer-edge cushion strip; full length; trims along the guide. Also a good fit for hiking boots on uneven trails.

FAQ

Questions about the supination pair

Still unsure? Write to care@evensteporthotics.com — a person answers.

What is supination?

The outward roll of the foot — the opposite of pronation. Supinating feet are often high-arched, land on the outer edge and absorb less shock through the arch, which loads the outside of the ankle and the lateral knee.

How is this different from the high-arches design?

It adds a lateral heel post and moves the cushion to the outer edge. Choose supination when your shoes wear on the outside and your ankles feel like they roll outward; choose high arches when the complaint is heel and forefoot pressure.

Will a post feel odd?

The post is a few degrees, set into the shell from your impression. It is designed to bring the foot back toward center rather than tilt it; give it a week of gradual wear before judging the feel.

How do I know they will fit?

Your orthotics are shaped from an impression of your own feet, not a size chart, and the shell is set to your weight band. We confirm the length from the impression and trim the pair to the shoe type you told us about. If anything is off, a remake is free inside the 180-day guarantee.

What's different from a shelf insole?

A shelf insole is one of three or four shapes chosen to fit millions of feet; it cushions but it cannot hold a heel or contour an arch that isn't its own. A custom orthotic is shaped from an impression of your foot, so the heel cup, arch profile and forefoot relief are yours. If a shelf insole has already solved your problem, keep it — we say so in our guides.

Which shoes will these fit?

Full-length designs fit sneakers, walking and running shoes, work boots and most lace-ups; remove the shoe's own insole and slide ours in, trimming along the guide if needed. The three-quarter design is for dress shoes and flats where there is no room for a full insole. Each pair is shaped for one shoe type, which is why a second pair for a different shoe is $139.
