For the walk that is the point

A long walk or a day on the trail is thousands of steps, many on uneven ground, with braking downhill and long stretches of pavement. Feet that are fine for an hour ache by the third.

This design carries the distance. A moderately deep heel cup steadies the foot on uneven ground and slows it sliding forward on descents; the arch, shaped from your impression, supports midstance for hours; and the forefoot is cushioned for pavement. The medium shell fits walking shoes and hiking boots alike.

Build

Medium shell, steady heel cup, cushioned forefoot, durable top cover; full length; trims along the guide.

FAQ

Questions about the walking & hiking pair

Still unsure? Write to care@evensteporthotics.com — a person answers.

Walking or everyday design?

Walking & hiking when the walk is the point — fitness walking, hiking, long treks — and the miles add up. Everyday for ordinary days of errands and commuting.

Will these fit my hiking boots?

Yes; pull the boot's insole out. If you also wear a lower walking shoe, one pair usually moves between the two. For heavy-duty work boots, see the work-boot design.

Downhill hurts my toes. Will this help?

A steady heel cup slows the foot sliding forward on descents, which is what jams toes into the boot. Lace the boot firmly at the ankle too.

How do I know they will fit?

Your orthotics are shaped from an impression of your own feet, not a size chart, and the shell is set to your weight band. We confirm the length from the impression and trim the pair to the shoe type you told us about. If anything is off, a remake is free inside the 180-day guarantee.

What's different from a shelf insole?

A shelf insole is one of three or four shapes chosen to fit millions of feet; it cushions but it cannot hold a heel or contour an arch that isn't its own. A custom orthotic is shaped from an impression of your foot, so the heel cup, arch profile and forefoot relief are yours. If a shelf insole has already solved your problem, keep it — we say so in our guides.

Which shoes will these fit?

Full-length designs fit sneakers, walking and running shoes, work boots and most lace-ups; remove the shoe's own insole and slide ours in, trimming along the guide if needed. The three-quarter design is for dress shoes and flats where there is no room for a full insole. Each pair is shaped for one shoe type, which is why a second pair for a different shoe is $139.
